Feast of Weeks (Shavuot or Pentecost) (Leviticus 23:15-22) Shavuot means ‚??weeks‚?Ě in Hebrew and Shavuot is called Pentecost in Greek. This is the second firstfruits offering, an offering of the wheat harvest. This feast honors God. It is at this time that God gave Moses his teachings and instructions. It was then that God married Israel, as He came down on top of the mountain, a canopy of cloud settled on the mountain top ‚?? a chuppah or a wedding canopy. Just as God gave Israel the marriage contract, the Torah, on Shavuot, we now have Jesus, the Word of God come to life who marries us.

2019 Shavuot (Pentecost): June 8-10 Solomon's Rest will celebrate Saturday June 8 with a potluck following service.

Yom Teruah or Feast of Trumpets (Leviticus 23:23-25) This is the first of the three fall feasts and is one that is yet to be fulfilled. This is a time when we look prophetically to the future event that will bring forth the Messiah. Consider the blast of the trumpet, as you celebrate the Feast of Trumpets, to be a spiritual wake-up call. And look with anticipation for the Messiah‚??s coming and the raising of the dead (1 Corinthians 15:51-52) The ten days that follow the Feast of Trumpets are called the Days of Awe, a time when each person looks at themselves to identify the wrongs they have committed and then repent. During these ten days, each person attempts to reconcile with those with whom they have wronged and to God for the things the sins committed.

2019 Yom Teruah (Feast of Trumpets) & Rosh HaShanah (Hebrew New Year): September 30-October 1 Solomon's Rest will celebrate on Saturday September 28 with potluck lunch after service.

Yom Kippur or Day of Atonement (Leviticus 23:26-32) This the second fall feast yet to be fulfilled. The Great Trumpet (Isaiah 27:13, Zechariah 9:14, and Matthew 24:31) to be blown and Yeshua will gather His bride. It is on this day in the future that God will gather His people, judge sin, and blow the Great Trumpet. Yes, Jesus died as our Passover Lamb to atone for sins and His blood was sprinkled so that we can have eternal life. And yet, Yom Kippur is a day when all Christians get to fast, pray, and focus on the Word of God. Yom Kippur is a perpetual feast, as all the feasts of God. In Leviticus 23, verse 31 clearly God says that Yom Kippur is a ‚??‚?¶statute forever throughout your generations.‚?Ě

2019 Yom Kippur: October 9. Solomon's Rest will honor Yom Kippur and will break the fast on the evening of October 9 with a potluck meal.

Feast of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:33-43) This is the seventh feast of God and it is the third fall feast yet to be fulfilled. Some scholars believe it is this day that Jesus was born, that he √Ę??tabernacled√Ę?¬Ě among us (John 1:14). This is a seven day feast in which small structures, booths √Ę??sukkahs√Ę?¬Ě, are built and people dwell in them to remind them of the days of the Israelites dwelling in temporary shelters with God. It calls to mind that God provided water and manna for the Hebrews for 40 years as they tabernacle with him. In the future, all nations will celebrate this feast (Zechariah 14:16). Scholars believe that the innkeeper offered Mary and Joseph his own sukkah that he had erected for Sukkot. We celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles, looking for a fulfillment of the feast and longing for God Himself to tabernacle with us (Revelation 21:3).

2019 Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles): October 14-October 20. Solomon's Rest will celebrate on Saturday, October 19 with a potluck lunch following the service.

Chanukah ‚?? This is the Feast of Dedication or Festival of Lights that Jesus, Yeshua, followed which you will find written about in John 10:22. Scholars believe that Jesus, the Light of the World (John 8:12), was conceived during Hanukkah. The word ‚??Chanukah‚?Ě in Hebrew means ‚??dedication.‚?Ě

2019 Chanukah (Feast of Dedication): December 23-30. Solomon‚??s Rest will celebrate on Friday, December 14 with a potluck lunch following the service.

You will not find Chanukah mentioned in the Tanak (Old Testament) because the historical event took place during that 400-year period of time between the testaments ‚?? between the books of Malachi and Matthew. The feast commemorates the victory the Hebrew people had led by Judas Maccabaeus (named Maccabee ‚?? the hammer).

Chanukah is a season of rededication. Chanukah honors the rededication of the Temple in 165 BCE when the Hebrews were victorious over their Greek oppressors. The Greek emperor Antiochus defiled the Temple by slaughtering a pig on the altar and sprinkling its blood on the Torah scrolls. He murdered anyone who would not eat pork and brutally punished those who were circumcised, kept the Sabbath and ate a kosher diet.

You can read about the victory the Hebrews had over their Syrian oppressors in the Book of Maccabees (Chanukah celebrates the victory of the Maccabees and the miracle of the oil that lasted for eight days. According to Leviticus 24:1-2 the oil that was to be used in the temple needed to go through a specific type of processing. The oil that was found was only enough to last for one day. God miraculously caused the oil to last for 8 days, until more purified oil could be prepared.

In comparison to the original rededication of the temple, today we recognize the rededication of our bodies as temples of the living God and we dedicate our heart and recommit our lives to the Light of the World, Yeshua.

We look forward to this Feast of Lights to remind ourselves of Yeshua as the Light of the World who drives out the darkness, His righteousness conquering lawlessness, and rejoice in His victory of the clean over the unclean.
